Malta is a Southern European country and an island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean. It is often called the “heart of the Mediterranean” and “Europe’s countryside.” Compared with other European countries, studying in Malta is more affordable. In addition, students can also take part in exchange programs and study in the UK and other countries.

So what are the requirements for studying in Malta? Let’s take a look.

The best public university in Malta is the University of Malta. It has a long history dating back to 1592, making it one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its main campus is located in the city center of the capital, Valletta, and it also has a newer campus in Msida. The university currently has more than 10,000 students in total, including international students from around the world.

The university enjoys a very strong global reputation, and its academic standards are recognized by many countries, including China. It also has many partnerships with institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere around the world. After graduation, students may have the opportunity to pursue master’s or doctoral studies at institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge.

However, for high school students in China who want to study in Malta and enter university directly, they generally need to complete a one-year foundation program first. This is because teaching methods at home and abroad are still somewhat different.

To apply for undergraduate study, students need transcripts from all years of high school, a graduation certificate, and exam results. They also need a TOEFL score of 61 or IELTS 5.5, as well as a Gaokao score above 500.

If you are a first-year university student or a junior college student, you can apply directly for undergraduate study as long as you meet a TOEFL score of 80 or an IELTS score of 6.0.

If you want to pursue a master’s degree, you must first have completed your undergraduate coursework and obtained a bachelor’s degree. You also need to provide your four-year university transcript and degree certificate. Recommendation letters, if available, will improve your application. In terms of language proficiency, a TOEFL score of 95 or an IELTS score of 6.5 or above is required.

In fact, for Chinese students, it is generally recommended that humanities students study business, management, tourism, or media, while science students are advised to study computer science, information technology, engineering, or architecture during their undergraduate years. For master’s studies in Malta, finance or communications are recommended. These are all strong fields in Malta.

Overall, the admission requirements for studying in Malta are not high, and the number of applicants is relatively small, so it offers fairly good value for money. If your qualifications do not yet meet very high requirements, Malta is worth considering as a study abroad option.
