Recent survey reports show that the most popular U.S. destinations for international students are California, New York, and Texas.

In general, there are only a few reasons why a region is especially attractive to international students: it offers abundant job opportunities, or it has rich educational resources.

Today, let’s take a closer look at New York State and see what makes it such an appealing study-abroad destination.

When talking about New York State, it is impossible to ignore New York City, the most populous city in the United States. New York City has the world’s largest urban area and, for a long time, has been one of the world’s leading commercial and financial centers. It is also recognized as a world-class city. The City University of New York system is one of the largest university systems in the United States, with many undergraduate and community colleges.

New York State is home to a dense concentration of higher education institutions. It has 314 universities and colleges, including world-renowned schools such as Columbia University, Cornell University, New York University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Rochester.

Within this highly developed education system, there are more than 200,000 faculty and staff members, over 7,000 libraries, and more than 750 museums. The total number of students enrolled comes to nearly one million.

Located in the northeastern United States, New York State is one of the country’s most economically developed states. Its GDP reached US$1.7014 trillion in 2018, ranking third in the nation. As a result, there are also many job opportunities in New York State.

As the nerve center and economic heart of the United States, New York State leads other states in finance, business, industry, art, and fashion. Agriculture and manufacturing are its main industries. In addition, New York State is home to the world’s largest natural harbor.

With these resources, New York State has a large number of businesses and employees, and it has also incubated dozens of technology and research centers. It has achieved significant results in fields such as computer science, microelectronics, and the life sciences.

It is also home to the United States’ financial center, with one-third of financial companies headquartered in Manhattan, New York. In this sense, it brings together the best of the global financial, securities, futures, and insurance industries. Wall Street in Lower Manhattan is an even more powerful symbol of American wealth and economic strength.

In fact, students studying in New York State have a strong chance of working at stock exchanges and other international currency trading centers.
