QS Regional University Rankings Methodology

QS World University Rankings

This methodology page applies to the QS regional university rankings that are designed for a specific geographic context rather than the whole world table. On Xuanxiao, it is used for regional editions such as the Arab Region, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa when no separate methodology page is maintained.

What Makes Regional Rankings Different

Regional rankings are typically designed to reflect local higher education priorities and may place relatively greater emphasis on:

  • employability within the region
  • regional research collaboration patterns
  • talent development and academic reputation in a local context
  • cross-border mobility inside the region

That means these tables should not be read as direct substitutes for global rankings. A university can perform very differently in a regional edition because the comparison set and weighting logic are intentionally adapted.

Recommended Interpretation

Use regional rankings to understand position within a specific market or education ecosystem. They are especially useful when your goal is to study, work, or build networks in that region. For cross-region comparison, pair them with global rankings and subject rankings instead of relying on a single table.
